BRIEF HISTORY OF SLRWH
A hospital, envisioned to become the first women’s hospital in Asia, SLRWH was built through the efforts of former Congresswoman Teresa Aquino-Oretaand former Secretary of Health CarmencitaN.Reodicaat O. Reyes Street, BarangaySantulan,MalabonCity. R.A. 6864 was enacted, creating it as the Saint Lorenzo Ruiz Municipal Hospital and appropriated funds thereof.
It started operating as an OPD clinic on September 7, 1998 and as a hospital under the name of San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital on December of the same year. It was operated by almost a hundred volunteer staff, inclusive of doctors, nurses, paramedics and support staff under the direct administrative supervision of Dr. Ma. Alicia M. Lim who was then the Medical Center Chief of Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC). It was in October 1999 when it became a retained hospital under the Department of Health – National Capital Region. It was in March 2004, when Dr. Maria Isabelita M. Estrella was appointed as the Chief of Hospital I.
As patient continually and increasingly poured-in, we see the need to increase the bed capacity of SLRWH. Through the initiative of Congresswoman Jaye Lacson Noel, House Bill No. 2721 was introduced to the Congress, proposing the increase in bed capacity of San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital from 10 to 50. The bill already passed the First Reading and currently in line for the Second Reading.
